About Us

Vikas Yojana Social Service Society

We aim to create an inclusive society where marginalized communities have access to all the resources, like education, livelihood opportunities, so that holistic development takes place.

Vikas Yojana Social Service Society (VYSSS) is a registered voluntary organization. It is a secular voluntary organization supported and sponsored by the CMI Fathers of St. Joseph’s Province, Kottayam.
VYSSS began functioning in 1981 with its headquarters in Puthupally, Kottayam. A branch office was started at Ponneruthanparappu, Idukki district, in 1989 for easy access and successful implementation of its various developmental activities in the high ranges. The target area of VYSSS covers Kattapana, Kanchiyar, Ayyappancoil and Upputhara Panchayath. The society is governed by an executive council consisting of 9 members, all of whom are eminent people from different walks of life.
Major activities and programs at present are community based rehabilitation (CBR), skill development and livelihood, community mobilization and capacity building, and holistic development of marginalized communities.

Programs

Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program

Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) is a major program of Vikas Yojana Social Service Society (VYSSS) since 2010 onwards. We have a service providing center named Chavaragiri CMI Special School, with 68 differently abled students from five panchayaths in Idukki district. Here we provide institutionalized care for differently abled students.

Community Mobilization and Capacity Building

Community Mobilization and Empowerment of the Marginalized is one of the major programs of the Vikas Yojana Social Service Society (VYSSS) since its beginning, which aims at guiding marginalized and disadvantaged people to achieve sustainable development in their lives and communities.

Holistic Development of Marginalized Communities

Holistic development of the marginalized communities refers to the physical, mental, economic and social development of marginalized people. Holistic development of marginalized communities is one of the major programs of VYSSS since beginning, which aims at guiding the marginalized and disadvantaged people to achieve sustainable development in their lives and communities.

Counselling Center

A counseling center has been functioning under VYSSS since 2016 onwards. The center supports the clientele to overcome the problems encountered within families and social circles by strengthening them with counselling and emotional support. Apart from settling family feuds, the counselling center also provides services for solving adolescent problems, parent-child maladjustment, behavioral problems among schoolchildren, disengaging substance abusers, and relieving suicidal tendencies.

Skill and Livelihood Development Program

The Skill Development and Livelihoods Program is a new initiative of VYSSS. It aims at imparting training to those in need, allowing them to stand on their own two feet, and becoming financially stable. Vikas Yojana Social Service Society, in collaboration with Bodygear International Pvt. Ltd., started a stitching unit in the VYSSS seminar hall as part of its skill development-livelihoods project for rural women.

School reopening ceremony for the academic year 2024-2025

Chavaragiri CMI Special School reopened for the academic year 2024-2025. Fr. Lijo K Joseph director inaugurated the function.

School kit distribution

Vikas Yojana Social Service Society distributed school kits (bags, books, pens, lunch boxes, water bottles, instrument boxes, umbrellas, etc) for 50 students from backward families.
28-May-2024

Vacation Class

Vikas Yojana Social Service Society conducted a spoken English and computer class for students during vacation time. And distributed certificates for completion of the two-month course.

Periodical Eye Check up Camp

Eye check up camps are periodically conducted for the rural people where in eyes are tested and spectacles are given for free after checking.

Breast Cancer Awareness

The women were given health awareness,, especially about breast cancer. They were trained on health and hygiene, as well as the nutrition they needed to take care of. They were taught that prevention was better than cure.

Covid-19 Kit Distribution

With the help of VOSARD VYSSS distributed Personal hygiene products to 50 families under covid-19 Emergency Response Program. Fr. Lijo K Joseph, Director VYSSS inaugurated the program.

Agarbathi making Training Program

In collaboration with the Seed Society, VYSSS conducted an Agarbathi making training programme for SHG members. Mrs. Sathy Shishubalan, staff from SEED Society provided training. 15 members participated in the training program.

In collaboration with SEED society VYSSS distributed sewing machine for 30 women from our SHG group.

Motivation Class

VYSSS conducted a motivation class for tailoring workers in Moms Magic Hands unit for improving the productivity of the workers. Fr. Jose Antony Director, VOSARD took the session.

Christmas Celebration

Christmas was celebrated among the trainees in Tailoring section which created a religious harmony among the participants. Every year the religious festivals are celebrated in our organization.

Awareness class on Entrepreneurship

VYSSS conducted a one-day seminar on entrepreneurship. Hentry’s food managing director, Mr. Hentry, took a session on how to become an entrepreneur. Also, Directorate of Industries and Commerce intern Ayyappancoil Gramapanchayth covered a session about the legal aspects of becoming an entrepreneur and how to apply for registration and a license. 56 members participated in the program.

Onam Festival

Onam a state festival in Kerala was celebrated and cultural program was organised. A floral rangoli adorned the floor and the women danced around it as a traditional practice of the festival.

Independance day was celebrated a National festival which gives a sense of patriotism to one and all. The flag was hoisted by women in the NGO.
